STEVEN TYLER - We're All Somebody From Somewhere (2016)

Genre - Rock
Label - Universal Ltd.

Track listing:
01 - My Own Worst Enemy
02 - We're All Somebody From Somewhere

05 - Love Is Your Name
06 - I Make My Own Sunshine

10 - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly And Me
11 - RED, WHITE And YOU
12 - Sweet Louisiana
13 - What Am I Doin' Right?
14 - Janie's Got A Gun
15 - Piece Of My Heart (feat. The Loving Mary Band)

So Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has gone country. Well actually he hasn't, but it has to be said that on this his debut solo album, we see him incorporating a strong country music influence whilst slowly moving away from the brash stadium rock that Aerosmith have become world famous for. Indeed on We're All Somebody From Somewhere there’s something for everyone – the die-hard Aerosmith fan, the adventurous Tyler fan and the fan fearing the worst.  It does have some country-ish moments such as "It Ain't Easy", "Gypsy Girl" and the catchy and enjoyable "Love is Your Name",  and "Red White and You" is fairly modern country. This is a rock album with a sometime country feel but not much of one. So if you are looking for a country album a bit like Cyndi Lauper's you might be disappointed. If you’re looking for a hint of the cheeky lustfulness that powered Aerosmith’s best early songs, head straight for the title track. There’s also a slow-burn take on the band’s 1989 hit “Janie’s Got a Gun,” which emphasizes the song’s notoriously dark subject matter.
And “Only Heaven” gamely attempts to revive Aerosmith’s power-ballad prowess from the same era, and quite succeed. The cover of “Piece of My Heart” (made famous by Janis Joplin) works rather nicely. Tyler is at his best here when he focuses on blending those two impulses, adding a rootsy undertow to the familiar Aerosmith sound. “My Own Worst Enemy,” the album’s episodic opener, is perhaps the perfect example.  He also unleashes a thunderous, blues-drenched performance on the harp during the Jeff Beck-ish “Hold On (Don’t Let Go).” The former — which includes the lyric, “I could blame Jesus, I could blame Momma, I could blame Brahma for all the bull that’s in my head” — shows Tyler has lost none of his way with a winking lyric either.
This is a fine album that has something for everyone, but will undoubtedly not be to everyone's taste,  me personally rather like it!

Dare - Sacred Ground (2016)

Genre - Melodic Hard Rock

04. Every Time We Say Goodbye
05. Days Of Summer
06. On My Own
07. Until
08. All Our Brass Was Gold
09. You Carried Me
10. Like The First Time
11. Along The Heather

Dare, formed in 1985, are a hard rock band from Oldham, England, UK, fronted by former Thin Lizzy keyboard player Darren Wharton. Sacred Ground is the bands seventh studio album (check the small 7 marker on the cover art) and promises to be just as much of a huge hit as their debut was. The first thing to be said about "Sacred Ground" is that you only need one listen to be hooked. There is no need to warm to the music, the hook is instant. From the gravelly tones of Darren Wharton’s vocal to the haunting guitar tones from Vinny Burns.
Opening song 'Home' (a classic Dare melody and lyric if ever there was one) is a classy, hook filled melodic AOR tune. The song writing is mature and strong with the heartrending, 'I’ll Hear You Pray' as one of the best exponents, a truly magical song, ‘Strength’ starts with a soothing piano and husky tones of Darren’s voice before again showcasing the spiralling riff of Vinny’s guitar, ‘Every Time We Say Goodbye’ is another tune that  pulls at your heart strings.
Vinny Burns guitar work on the album is sublime and often mesmerising, while Darren Wharton's gravely tones are pure classic rock perfection!
‘Along The Heather’ where the lead guitar is handled by Darren’s very own son Paris, is another truly magical moment, a beautiful song.

"Sacred Ground" could well be the very best Dare album to date. It is that good.

Watts - The Black Heart Of Rock N Roll (2016)

Genre - Hard Rock / Classic Rock / Rock 'n' Roll
Label - Rum Bar Records

Track listing:
01 - The Black Heart of Rock N Roll
02 - Up All Night
03 - She's So Electric
04 - Strut (Like A Champ)
05 - Bye & Bye
06 - Stage Fright
07 - Fast & Loose
08 - Sunset
09 - The B Side
10 - Bring On The Lights

Watt's return with their forth album in the form of The Black Heart of Rock 'n' Roll. Hailing from the same hometown as The Cars, Nervous Eaters, The Odds, Didn’t Planet and countless other very talented bands, Watts is yet another example of why there may be no better place to be a rock fan than Boston, MA. With nods towards classic rock legends such as AC/DC, The Stones and Aerosmith and no shortage of hit-worthy hooks, The Black Heart of Rock ‘n’ Roll is one very engaging record. Watts takes you on a whirlwind wild ride from album opener, “The Black Heart of Rock n Roll” through arena-ready, guitar-heavy rockers “Strut (Like a Champ)” and “She’s So Electric”. There’s a nod to the pop side with “Bye & Bye”, which I feel is one of the albums weakest tracks,  Toys in the Attic grit with “Stage Fright”, a bit of Keef twang in “Fast & Loose”, and ode to the the 45 “The B Side”, and closing out with the blistering, arena rock show stopper “Bring On The Lights”. plus there's the made-for-radio lead single and video “Up All Night”, brilliant bouncy fun! There really is a lot to like about Watts Black Heart of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
A great band with their hearts set in the musical mindsets of the late eighties and early nineties, think Last Of The Great Dreamers, The Quireboys and Dogs D' Amour.

Denner-Shermann (ex - Mercyful Fate - Masters Of Evil (2016)

Genre - Heavy Metal
Label - Metal Blade

Track listing:
01. Angel's Blood
02. Son Of Satan
03. The Wolf Feeds At Night
04. Pentagram And The Cross
05. Masters Of Evil
06. Servants Of Dagon
07. Escape From Hell
08. The Baroness

Former Mercyful Fate Legends Micheal Denner and Hank Shermann return with their new projects (Denner / Shermann) debut album and the follow up to last years acclaimed 'Satan's Tomb' Ep. Once again the legendary ex - Mercyful Fate guitarists are joined by Snowy Shaw (Drums), Marc Grabowski (Bass) and vocalist Sean Peck, for this their debut full album release, and what can I say? Master's Of Evil is pure unadulterated classic heavy metal, in fact it is probably the closest thing that we will ever get to a new Mercyful Fate album!
All the music is killer great dual guitar work that you would expect from Denner and Shermann, probably their best guitar work since Mercyful Fate's  Time. Sean Peck does an amazing job on the vocals. Stylistically very close to King Diamond vocals, but not trying to be a carbon copy. He does match King's tone at key times, but it isn't overdone, in fact he puts in a hell of a shift here, ranging from the outright Ozzy-isms of the brilliant “The Wolf Feeds At Night” to his display on the opening salvo of “Angel’s Blood”, he really is the perfect foil for the music.A great balance. There’s nothing too long here either, with the longest track being the albums closer, "The Baroness" which clocks in at just under 7 minutes long.
Fans of King Diamond and Merciful Fate, which let's facr it is the bands primary target audience,  will not be disappointed with Master's of Evil, its a truly brilliantly sinister album!

DOROTHY - RockIsDead (2016)

Genre - Hard Rock / Classic Rock
Label - Roc Nation

Track listing:
01 - Kiss It
02 - Dark Nights
03 - Raise Hell
04 - Wicked Ones
05 - Gun In My Hand
06 - Medicine Man
07 - Woman
08 - Whiskey Fever
09 - After Midnight
10 - Missile
11 - Shelter

Fronted by incredible female vocalist Dorothy Martin, DOROTHY is nothing but rock at its absolute finest, and "RockIsDead" is an album not to be missed.
Based in L.A., DOROTHY includes lead singer Dorothy Martin, Zac Morris on drums, DJ Black on guitar, and Gregg Cash on bass. And although there is no doubt that lead vocalist Dorothy Martin is the real star of the show, the band are pretty damn tight too!
There is also a good chance you’ve heard a DOROTHY song before and just haven’t been able to put a name to the band. Their songs have been featured on Pretty Little Liars, Orange Is The New Black, and even the DLC trailer for Tom Clancy’s The Division. DOROTHY's backbone is basically classic rock with some traditional hard rock touches in a vintage style, conjuring from early Heart / Ann Wilson with Led Zeppelin, to Janis Joplin with a little Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz thrown in.
There is something on this album for everyone. 'Kiss It' has some Joan Jett on it with a catchy bluesy riff envelope, the groovy 'Dark Nights' adds a swamp rock feel with stadium choruses and an infectious riff, and 'Wicked Ones' with the sing-along "ah ah ah.." call-and-response chorus.
'Woman' is some kind of ballad whilst 'Whiskey Fever' is a thumping ode to that brown liquor all on a very '80s sounding package. In 'Gun In My Hand' the band mix some Americana that works greatly, then 'Medicine Man' evokes very early Eighties Heart.
More variation appears in 'After Midnight', a dynamic rocker with a Black Sabbath-like bass/guitar riffs blended with blues matched only by Martin's skyrocketing vocals. 'Missile' is perhaps the albums most  commercial track, anthemic with claps ala Queen's We Are The Champions yet with an unmistakable American feel. And if you need an emotional ballad, there's 'Shelter' and its bluesy heart.
Blending classic rock, blues, crowd-pleasing stadium rock and some traditional hard rock, DOROTHY's full length debut "RockIsDead" is a terrific collection of pure rock songs around the 3-minute mark plenty of heart & soul. Dorothy Martin is not only one hell of a vocalist, but she looks smokin' hot too!

Very Highly Recommended!

06. Someone Like You
07. Millionaire
08. Don’t Stop Doing What You’re Doing
09. You’re the One for Me
10. I Want All Your Love
11. Gotta Get Away

Headline Maniac are an alternative rock band from Essex in the UK. All 3 band members, Dipster Ian Dean (Vocals and Bass), Chris Taylor (Guitars) and Simon Bowley (Drums),  are also part of pioneering punk legends Eddie and the Hotrods. When comparing Headline Maniac to Eddie and the Hotrods they come across as a little more bluesey, a bit heavier, but the punk roots really shine through giving a nice, rough edge to the songs. the songs are all bouncy, catchy and filled with singalong lyrics. The most laid back are probably the album closer, “Gotta Get Away”,  and “Millionaire” but never slow ballady types of tracks here, which is fine by me!
There maybe some heartfelt lyrics here but its the pure rock n roll energy that drives each and every song on this album along, which is no surprise really when you consider the pool of talent that makes up Headline Maniac, after all it maybe a new band but these guys aren't exactly new to the scene!

Headline Maniac are a good honest hard rock n roll band, that have delivered a debut album filled with good down to earth honest rock n roll songs

Lawson - Perspective (2016)

Label - Polydor Group

Track listing:
01. Perspective (Intro)
02. We Are The Fire
03. Money
04. Where My Love Goes
05. Rio
06. When I’m Old
07. Only Water
08. Lion’s Den
09. Roads
10. I Look Anyway
11. Used To Be Us
12. Love & War

Lawson is an English pop rock band that originated in England, United Kingdom, consisting of Andy Brown (guitar, lead vocals), Ryan Fletcher (bass guitar, backing vocals), Joel Peat (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Adam Pitts (drums).
The band's debut album "Chapman Square", was released on 22 October 2012 and reached number three on the UK Albums Chart. To date, the band have achieved six UK top 20 hit singles. They are named after Liverpool-based surgeon Dr. David Lawson who performed life-saving surgery on Brown.
But how do they sound? Well to be fair not half bad if this new album is anything to go by. Think Thunder's popier moment's, Little Angels, Skin, Dan Reed Network, Kings Of Leon,  etc and get an idea.
Lawson produce a slick melodic pop/rock type of music, filled with texture and dynamics and never dull sterile or lifeless. Andy Brown's vocals are a perfect fit for the bands blend of pop rock managing to add that little something etc. to some very, very well written songs. "When I'm Old" is a lot more up-tempo than its title may suggest, whilst "Only Water" is a wonderful ballad with its piano lead and strings. "Lion's Den" is a great song, "I Look Away" is another well crafted ballad whilst "Love & War" is simply just a wonderful song.
Whilst Perspective may not be the type of music that I would usually listen too, a little more pop that rock for me, I have to say that every single track on offer here is very well crafted and executed perfectly.
Lawson ae a great band, and quite possibly the UK's answer / equivalent to The Kings Of Leon, plus Perspective is damn fine album ta boot!

Silver Horses (feat Tony Martin) (Remastered 2016)

Genre - Hard Rock / Classic Rock
Label - 7Hard

Track listing:
01 - Rub It On Me
02 - Run
03 - Life And Soul
04 - Diamond Sky
05 - Secret Service
06 - Suddenly Lost
07 - Me
08 - Silver Horses
09 - You're Breaking My Heart (Don't Do It)
10 - You
11 - Who's Holding On To Yo
BONUS TRACKS:
12 - Me (acoustic version)
13 - The Song That Never Was

SILVER HORSES were formed in Italy five years ago by guitar player Gianluca Galli (Time Machine) and drummer Matteo Bonini (MGRB) . After the band completed the line-up with bass player Andrea Castelli, they needed an Anglo-born vocalist to sing their Classic Hard Rock songs.Through Dario Mollo they contacted Tony Martin (Ex Black Sabbath, Mollo Martin, Giuntini Project, Empire, M3), who immediately accepted, and the combo recorded their self-titled debut. Best known for his time fronting British legends Black Sabbath during their most commercial period in the late ‘80s / early ‘90s, Martin’s bluesy tone was the perfect choice for this kind of material. Silver Horses' music is Classic, traditional Hard Rock with a foot firmly planted in the Seventies and the other in the groove from the '80s very reminiscent of classic Whitesnake and Free.
"Silver Horses" bears a strong influence from the Page / Plant band on opener "Rub It On Me", "Life And Soul" and the acoustically filled "Diamond Sky", all in the Led Zepp IV vein.
Much more modern, "Secret Service" recalls the Coverdale/Page adventure, while in the marching "Run" brings to mind middle-Eighties Deep Purple.
The band shows a more contemporary approach in the Eastern flavoured "Me", the bluesy hard rocking Badlands-like "You", and the moving "You're Breaking My Heart" where the Whitesnake / Bernie Marsden era comes to mind.
the albums title track, "Silver Horses", is a moody mid-tempo bluesy acoustic number, and the band also deliver good ballads in the form of the  groovy "Suddenly Lost" and the pure acoustic closer "Who's Holding On To You", a really classy track with a nice melody.
This re-mastered reissue add two nice bonus tracks. One is titled 'The Song That Never Was', a nice short instrumental track, while the other is the new acoustic version of "Me", but this is not just a relaxed take of the same song, this has been completely reworked / re-arranged and sounds completely different.
"Silver Horses" offers a very, very classic set of hard rock songs that are very well composed, performed and recorded.
The sound and style are typically British, served with a precise and polished musicianship finely produced, warm and organic. Tony Martin feels right at home within this material and his voice is in top form as usual, enhancing the tunes with his phenomenal throat.
A good dish of Classic Hard Rock is always welcomed, and "Silver Horses" is very, very purist in its delivery.

Very Highly Recommended!

All Hope Is Gone is a great taster for a great album, an acoustically driven song that just builds and builds into a real monster of a song.
The Devil Made Me is exclusive to this digital single (available from Amazon and iTunes) and will not be available elsewhere, so its worth grabbing a hold of for that reason alone, plus its a bloody great song that really fits in with the stylings of the album, a western themed acoustic driven song that is well, just bloody ace!

Zen Motel - We Want Your Blood (Remixed and Remastered!) (2016)

Genre - Hard Rock / Punk / Pop / Alternative / Modern Rock
Label - Corporate Records (Independent)

Track listing:

01 - Superhuman Colosseum
02 - The Pit
03 - Kill Your Radio (Feat CJ and Si Fricker)
04 - Death Rock City (Feat CJ)
05 - Cut And Run
06 - Bone Deep In Trouble (Feat CJ)
07 - Curse Of the Girlfiend (Feat Si Fricker)
08 - Trust Your Instincts
09 - I Will End This
10 - House Of The Dying Sun

Zen Motel have re-issued their 2012 album, We Want Your Blood! in a remixed and re-mastered form!
Now I thought the original release of this album was pretty darn awesome, but the remixing and re-mastering efforts of band leader Lee Potter really do make this re-issue something special. Everything sounds that much clearer, giving the songs that sharper more crystalline edge.
We Want Your Blood gives us Ten tracks, clocking in at just under half an hour, of angst driven hard rock with some great melodies. The following review follows the albums original track running order, which has been re-jigged a little for the re-issue, but I find myself putting them back in their original order!
Opening with the mighty Superhuman Colosseum, a weighty peice that declares that they have given up giving in before crashing into the The Pit which first saw the light of day on the Cranked EP, still an awesome track, full of energy and angst. Kill Your Radio is up next, a slightly more commercial song that features CJ from the Wildhearts as a guest on guitars and vocals (the first of three tracks to do so!) as well as Si Fricker. This is a great song that debuted via the internet last year, but still sounds great in its finished form. Trust Your Leader follows, again a typical Zen Motel song, filled with twists and turns, another great addition to the back catalogue.
Death Rock City follows, again featuring CJ on vocals and guitars. Here the guys turn the tempo up a little, yet this song still has a very commercial feel to it, a great song that should be a huge hit, again a song that debuted a year or so ago via the internet. Cut and Run is up next, a little more atmospheric to my ears, yet retaining all the punk angst and rock elements. A great song.
Next up is the last of the three songs to feature CJ, Bone Deep In Trouble, a song that takes the album off on a little tangent with its acoustic guitars and almost country feel, this really is a great song!
Curse of The Girlfiend follows, again a song that originally saw the light of day a year or so ago via the internet, darker and moodier than its predecessors, great fun and has a great video too!
The albums penultimate track comes in the form of I Will End This, a song that sees the tempo pick back up together with some great lyrics and riffs. House Of The Dying Sun closes out the album, a slower more epic track but more importantly, another great song  rounding off a great album!
There is so much energy and diversity presented on this album that it truly showcases the bands abilities as both song writers and performers!

This really is a fantastic remix and re-mastering of what was already a great album!
Plus its currently being offered as a pay what you think its worth deal here. so no excuses!

Very Highly Recommended!

Paul Miro - Sinombre Vol I: All Hope is Gone

Genre - Dark / Western / Atmospheric / Rock / Acoustic / Soundscape
Label - Pledge Music / Self Released

Track listing:
01 - Nothing Left Here (Part 1)
02 - End Of Days
03 - All Hope Is Gone
04 - Suddenly Righteous
05 - Wilderness
06 - Nest Of Vipers
07 - No Party
08 - Travelogue
09 - Night Fall
10 - Find The Beast
11- Devil Man Jump
12 - Fall From Grace
13 - Swimming In The Dowling Pool
14 - The Only Devil
15 - Sun's Gonna Shine
16 - Nothing Left Here (Part II)

Former Apes, Pigs and Spacemen front man, Paul Miro, returns with his latest solo offering in the form of Sinombre Vol 1: All Hope Is Gone, released via Pledge Music.
As Paul describes it,
"Sinombre is a two-hour long project, split into two albums, each of which features sixteen tracks. The first album is entitled All Hope is Gone".
"Like many journeys, Sinombre started out as a fortuitous accident. I’ve said about some previous albums, ‘this was not what I set out to make. ’I was already at work on a new solo album, which had the working title Snow Monkey, which I will record at some point in the future. Quite a lush affair that, if it resembles anything from my previous albums, is probably more in the vein of Scary Tales with more of an edge.
I then received a brief for some TV music. Dark, western, sinister, atmospheric, demons and monster stuff. It isn’t often that I get to immerse myself so freely in a TV project - generally, there are a lot of restrictive rules of form and style applied. But on this one, I had a free hand. And I quickly realised that it was something I wanted to develop further, outside of the imposed lyrical strictures.
Writing about mythical demons and monsters just made me think about all of the real demons we are currently powerless to resist. Corporate, financial, religious, political monsters, right wing populism, corruption, greed, inequality, suffering and a general sense of prevailing hopelessness. The next logical progression in my head was, ‘What happens when it all comes tumbling down?’
And that was the starting point for the project: at the edge of, and after the fall."
"  If you are inclined, you can follow it as a concept album that goes full circle. But, each song stands as it’s own story. Moments of darkness, and moments of light. Because it is so stylised and nothing like anything I have done before, and because it has a life of it’s own, I gave it the Sinombre identity, Sinombre being the beast that runs throughout the two albums, with me as the agent charged with presenting the story. You can take it like that, or just listen to it as a bunch of songs about which I happen to feel supremely proud."

But how does the album sound?
Well the album opens with Nothing Left Here (part 1), which is a stripped down acoustic based track, that serves to set the listener up for what is to follow. Its a melancholy and beautiful track too.
Next up we have End Of Days, this is basically a dark soundscape with Terrorvision's Tony Wright providing a narrative that really does set the lyrical tone of the album. All Hope Is Gone follows, this track has been the albums lead (digital only) single , and a great song it is too. Acoustically driven with some great dark western flavourings. One of my favourite songs to be released so far in 2016!
Next we have the brilliant Suddenly Righteous, a brilliant song with a real country feel to it that slowly builds a real groove. Another outstanding track! Wilderness is up next, a short instrumental track that clocks in at just over a minute long, A dark western soundscape of a track. Nest Of Vipers follows, continuing the western theme musically, that again builds into a solid rocking track. Another great song! Next we have No Party, a great song that builds from a semi acoustic intro to a typical Paul Miro rocker! Travelogue is another great short instrumental track that serves as a great intro for Night Fall. which picks up the tempo some what, becoming a dark atmospheric track with a fast pulse! Find The Beast is up next, and is one of the albums real gems. A great western flavoured almost rockabilly song t is well, simply brilliant! Devil Man Jump follows, with is dark heavy western flavoured groove. Fall from Grace, is a beautiful mellow track, again acoustically driven with some western flavoured baritone and flamenco guitars. Next we have something a little special in Swimming In The Dowling Pool. A great song featuring the talents of and inspired by one Mr Willie Dowling of Honeycrack, Jackdaw4 and Dowling Poole fame!
The Only Devil is another great song with a heavy south western feel that just keeps building as it moves along.
Sun's Gonna Shine  is pretty much the album big ballad. A great song with some absolutely brilliant lyrics! The album closes out with Nothing Left Here (Part II), which is a bigger production continuation of the albums opener. A great ay to close out a great album.....now I am rally looking forward to part two!

Very Very highly recommended!!
