Absolva announce 34 tour dates including 7 with Michael Schenker

ABSOLVA ANNOUNCE 34 DATE EUROPEAN TOUR INCLUDING 7 SHOWS AS SPECIAL GUESTS WITH MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST


Absolva, the Manchester-based British metal band featuring current members of Iced Earth and the Blaze Bayley band, announce their 2018 tour schedule including 7 shows appearing as special guests with legendary Scorpions and UFO guitarist Michael Schenker.


The Absolva band members have a history of extensive touring since forming in 2012, and relish once again an extended trip around Europe. Being chosen as special guests on the Michael Schenker Fest also gives the band the opportunity to warm the crowd for renowned vocalists Graham Bonnet, Doogie White, Gary Barden and Robin McAuley.


The tour begins in Sweden with an Absolva headline show in Varberg on 4th October, whilst the sequence with Michael Schenker starts in Malaga (Spain) on 27th October. The tour finale is an Absolva headline show at hometown Manchester, Academy 3 on 22nd December.


Says singer/guitarist Chris Appleton “For me it's a real honour and a pleasure to be reunited with guitar legend Michael Schenker who has always been a massive influence on my guitar playing and my career. We toured with him on previous occasions both as Absolva and also previously as Fury UK, which was a great experience, and we are very happy and proud to have gained many loyal fans at those shows”

"Cruel Britannia" delivers four tracks; 2 originals, 1 cover version & 1 re-recording.
The cover of 'Copperhead Road' (originally recorded by Steve Earle) has been a Knock Out Kaine live show fan favourite for many years now, so to finally have a studio recording is great especially as the band give their own spin on this bluesy rocker.
Originally released back in 2012 on their debut album House Of Sins, the re-recorded version of 'Going Down' is a very good choice. The original was really good but this version is better still! The band are on fine form and sounds like they had a bloody fantastic time recording it.
Then we have the new 2016 songs.
Track 1 'Cruel Britannia' shows Knock Out Kaine's more serious side. Probably about as political as this band could ever get. Full of satire and cutting social commentary that basically sums up the feeling of the United Kingdom & the current government as it stands. Musically kicks with a vintage hard rock swagger.
'Love The Way You Hate' was originally composed for the band's second album. It never made into the final track list, and I'm glad the band now properly recorded it. It's a catchy melodic rocker with lots of harmony vocals and an infectious riff.


Well worth checking out!

Knock Out Kaine come out of the traps snarling with attitude on the full throttle opener "16 Grams Of Heart Attack" This is no holds barred, tumultuous hard rock at it’s best. "Fire And Smoke" bears all the hallmarks of a Skid Row in their pomp. Brash guitars, dangerous vocals with voracious power.
"How Would I Know" shows that this band isn't all about savage mayhem. Everything about this track exudes a real song writing intelligence. The chorus is instantly likeable with it's feel good '80s hook.
On the surface, the guitar work that weaves its way throughout the album is classic KOK, but the discerning listener will pick out the extra melodic layers entwined within the classic hard rocking riffs that are Jimmy Bohemian's home turf.
Balanced against the lead and rhythm guitar from Jimmy, the bass from Lee Byrne adds breadth to the songs without seeming making any effort to be noticed. Countered perfectly by the more intricate yet still powerful percussion backdrop provided by Danny Crash, and we have all the ingredients which make up the recipe for a high class hard rockin' album.
Like any good chef vocalist Dean Foxx takes all the ingredients present, and with the addition of his sometimes relentless, sometimes nimble vocals meshes it all together to create a dish that is arguably greater than the sum of its parts.
The bluesy strut of "Diamond Blue" makes way for a funk licked "Cascading", with Bohemian’s audacious riff giving this tune balls of steel. It’s another vocal hard rock master-class on "Ain't Your Kind". Foxx is clearly a man with an impressive range, so much so you’d be forgiven for thinking he gargles with razor blades, such is the distinct rawness in his voice. And one listen to this jewel of a track and your hooked.
If the complete lunacy and eccentricity of "Boxes" doesn’t afford you a smile or a uncomfortable chuckle, be very worried. This madcap orgy of unconventional hard rock is irresistible start to finish.
The guys regain their sanity with a hefty dollop of acoustics on "Flying Blind", a song that should seduce the airwaves with little difficulty.
"Because You Were There" is an able and solid ballad, with neat and tidy verses followed by a cautiously safe chorus. But in truth, it doesn't quite reach the heights of the previous tracks. Which I suppose is a backhanded compliment due to the quality of the writing on this album.
Final track "One More For The Road" throws out more versatility from a band with many tools in their locker. A slick and arrogant groove that unearths an American vibe closes the album in style.
Take the passion and talent that catapulted Knock Out Kaine into the Rock music scene, give it a few years on the road to mature, add some seriously smooth production skills, and you are left with the polished second album that is "Rise of the Electric Jester".
There is enough classic KOK here to satisfy the existing fans, while adding enough variety to introduce new audiences to their music. All underpinned by the fact that Knock Out Kaine are clearly writing the songs they love and playing the music they want to play, and you have a band to keep a close eye on over the coming years.
If there's any justice left in this fickle music world of ours, 2015 should be a rip roaring year for Knock Out Kaine. This band's music brings more weight to my belief that a second coming of the true Rock domination we enjoyed in the '80s is imminent.
Highly Recommended.

Chris Appleton, lead vocalist with UK metal bands Absolva, Fury UK, and the lead guitarist with former Wolfsbane/Iron Maiden front man Blaze Bayley’s touring band, releases his debut solo album in the form of Restless.
Chris has enlisted the help of his brother Luke (Fury UK / Iced Earth) and Belgian singer Wizz Wizzard for the album, with the later providing backing vocals on several tracks as well as sharing lead vocals on Restless. Both of whom will be helping to support Chris on a short tour to promote the album.
The album has a rather raw feel to it, partly due to the fact that it was recorded in analogue, almost giving it a feel of a good demo in places but that just adds to the appeal, as over producing an acoustic album is a sure fire way to kill any feel that's there within the songs. As can be seen from the track listing above, the album contains three covers, two tracks that Chris was heavily involved with in the first place being covers of his own songs, and a wondrous rendition of the Ozzy Osbourne classic, Mama I'm Comin' Home.
Album opener Seafarer has a rather epic feel to it, with Chis and Wizz trading vocal lines a great song that sets the general tone for what is to follow. Crazyhead could be worked up in to a great full blown Absolva track with its hammered on riff. God this song sounds awesome as an acoustic track, with a full blown electric set up behind it, well damn that's all that I can say!
No Tomorrow is simply a beautiful song.
How Will I Feel When You're Gone, is something special, the opening riff sounding really familiar for some reason, but it is a really great song.
Title track, Restless, an instrumental, and very much a guitarists track, allowing Chris to show case his technique and virtuoso ability. It would also be interesting to hear this track worked up into a full blown electric affair!
Its great to hear acoustic versions of Only When its Over and I See Red, adding another dimension to two great songs.
Wonders Of The World, with its piano intro is another fine example of Chris at his best, sensitive and touching with elements of power throughout.
Mama I'm Comin' Home is simply sublime.
A great album well worth checking out!

Original AC/DC vocalist (and co-founding band member), Dave Evans returns with a new Ep, Nothing To Prove which also marks the fortieth anniversary of the very first ACDC live shows!

Nothing To Prove features three brand new tracks all co-written with Chris Appleton (Fury UK / Absolva / Blaze Bayley) and a cover of the traditional blues classic, Baby Please Don't Go.

Opening with Put Up or Shut Up, Nothing To Prove gets off to a great start. Driven by a stomping riff that propels the song along and gives it a classic feel, reminding me in places of sadly missed NWoBHM legends Samson! Dave's vocals dripping attitude with every line.Yet that being said, the song still has a very contemporary feel, due in the main part to its top notch production! I imagine that this track will fast become a live favourite!
Next up we have I Believe, a slightly more melodic track, especially the chorus, which has a Kiss feel to it (in my opinion anyway!), with the verses following a riff very similar to the main riff of the previous track. Again Dave's vocals are spot on and the band are as tight as a ducks arse so to speak.
Reach For The Sky follows which has a slightly quicker tempo than its predecessors, yet for some reason its sound brings to mind a sort of cross between Samson (Don't Get Mad Get Even era) and Praying Mantis!
The Ep's closing track, is a great spirited cover of the classic blues track made famous by the likes of Big Joe Williams, Budgie and Aerosmith! A great performance of a stunning song.

Nothing To Prove really does show that Dave Evans really does have Nothing To Prove, and captures an artist who really does seem to be enjoying what they are doing, with as much hunger as when they first started (40 years ago!) but with the benefit of 40 years of experience!

 Exit State return with their third album in the form of Let's See It All, the worthy follow up to 2011's Black Veins. Jam packed with fresh, punchy catchy riffs and hooks to die for, Let's See It All may very well be the album that see's these UK rockers break through into the big leagues. This album contains eleleven cracking songs, executed to perfection. The vocal's from Rob Bright are truly outstanding, at times reminding me a little of former Voodoo Johnson vocalist, Kevin Bayliss, with some great lyrics throughout. The band are tight and intricate at times, but never at the expense of loosing sight of what the song is all about.As I said all eleven tracks are really strong and showcase just how much the band have grown as song writers since 2010's debut Death Of A Rockstar.
The albums production really is top notch, and wellto be honest this really is a cracking album that should appeal to fans of all types of loud music be it hard rock, heavy metal, alternative, indie, punk or modern rock.
Let's See It All really is a shining example of just how a modern rock album should sound.
A future classic? Could very well be!

Irish rockers return with their new E.P. Hit The Spot, their first release for new label Rocksector Records.
After causing quite a stir back in Ireland, these guys first crossed the pond back in 2011 and haven't really looked back since. With their classic styles hard rock in the same vein as The Black Crowes, Free and Bad Company Sweet Taste deliver a record that's guaranteed to leaves fans of the classic rock genre salivating for more! The songs are extremely well crafted and delivered with a certain underplayed innocence that just brings them to life in a manner that so many other bands fail to do today. Musically as I have already said, they are very tight and disciplined, at times the vocals are reminicent of a young Sean Harris (Diamond Head), and again as I said the songs are very well put together.
All four tracks on offer are killers, that are just bound to leave the listener hungry for the full length Album!

Very highly reconmended!

Released on 12th November through Rocksector Records, Dark Horizons is the debut full length release from Manchester based four piece heavy metal band Babylon Fire. Dark Horizons contains twelve solid tracks which showcase the bands talent and diversity as songwriters. having to adapt to being a four piece following the departure of former guitarist Will Reece the band have honed both their sound and their songs to bring us a very solid debut. From the opening riffs of The Clarion Call the quality is never in doubt, and the intensity never really lets up throughout the entire duration of the album. in fact the tempo doesn't really ease off until track four, Stripped Away, which is a great little rocker, a little more commercial than the onslaught and intensity of the three previous tracks.Demonocracy continues to mix things up a little, the intensity returns but its mixed some melodic guitar sections and some great melodies. Shattered Crown is pretty much a great traditional heavy metal track which leads nicely into a great little instrumental, The Gates Of Oblivion. Gates....sets up the mighty Wrath Of the Fallen, which is probably my favourite track on the album. Here we see the intensity return, but its tempered with plenty of melody, a truly great song. The intensity continues with Cycle Of Addiction, which is a great metal / rock song. Within The Mouth Of Madness sees the intensity continue, a great track some great lyrics and its Charlie Manson intro. Penultimate track Rise Through Babylon, sees the tempo mixed up a little, a great song. The album closes out with I Still Remember, an epic song.
Its hard to believe that this album is the bands debut, it really does sound so accomplished as though the guys have been at this game for years!
To be honest Dark Horizons is a really strong debut album from a very promision British band. Proof that the British Rock and Metal scene is truly alive, and has a great home on Rocksector Records!

Absolva are a Manchester based Classic Metal band born from the ashes (?) of the promising Fury Uk. As well as featuring Chris Appleton (Guitar and vocals) and Martin McNee (Drums) from Fury Uk, Absolva also features the talents of Tom Atkinson (Lead Guitars and backing vocals) of Vice fame and Dan Bate (Bass and backing vocals) of Point Black Fury fame. Theses guys are tight! Solid songs, with amazingly tight performances combined with an excellent production makes Flames Of Justice one of the best metal albums that I have heard in years, and I honestly mean that!

The twin guitar attack is reminiscent of the genre's legends such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, but Chris and Tom take their slant to an all new level, the riffs are brutal at times, heavy yet melodic, and every lick seems to be so perfectly placed, nothing ever sounds contrived, just a natural flowing sound that just develops and flows along with each song.

This album has everything that a great metal album should have, brutal grinding tracks suck as It IS What It Is, duelling guitar lead tracks suck as on Breathe, great rocking along up tempo tracks such as title track Flames Of Justice, short sweet acoustic segments like State Of Grace and epic songs like Free and Only When Its Over, stompers like Beyond The Light, as I said everything a great metal album should have!.

This album is proof positive that Absolva are a seriously talented band with all the potential of becoming the new kings of the metal scene. They could well be the rightful heirs to the crowns of legendary bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest! Yes they really are that god damn good!

Flames of Justice is released on 5th November through Rocksector Records and you guys really should check it out!

Its been a long time since these guys released their debut album "Wild Cat" back in 1980, a period of thirty two years that has seen them disband and reform twice and release countless classic NWoBHM master peices. Its a sad fact that Tygers of Pan Tang are criminaly overlooked by the majority of fans of the NWoBHM era, with the likes of Iron Maiden, Saxon, Diamond Head, Praying Mantis and Def Leppard taking the spot light, leaving some truly great songs undiscovered.

Ambush is the second full length release from Tygers... since they reformed for the second time back in 2001 and is a solid album to be fair. Founding member, Robb Weir (Guitars) is joined by Jacopo Meille (Vocals), Dean Robertson (Guitars), Gavin Gray (Bass) and Craig Ellis (Drums & Percussion) for this outting, and together witha strong clear production and some great songs they turn in a brilliant performance, with Ambush reinforcing the point that Tygers.... really do deserve your attention, and are still relevent and capable of putting out some great music after all these years.

The album seems to be the perfect ballance of Classic Melodic Rock and NWoBHM, with Jacopo's vocals dancing tantalisingly over the top of some great rock riffs. As I have already said the songs are strong, full of life and energy with great riffs and some awesome hooks taboot.
The first five songs have a more melodic leaning where as the rest are definetly more in NWoBHM vein, creating a solid and diverse album!

Stand out tracks for me have to include the opening track, Keeping Me Alive, Play To Win (which is a pure NWoBHM classic!), Burning Desire and Hey Suzie, a song that not only ressurects the character ftom the bands debut single but also has a feel very reminiscent of their debut album Wild Cat.

A Great album for a veteren band that is well worth checking out!

Swanee River play melodic, bluesy, soulful, dirty rock n roll just as it should be played and will no doubt appeal to fans of  bands such as the Black Crowes, AC/DC, The Answer, Led Zepplin, early Whitesnake and Bad Company.

Formed in 2005 in Ireland, Swanee River have self-released 3 EPs & 1 full album "Smoking Jacket" in 2011. They've played in UK, Europe, not to mention a headline festival appearance in India. They've supported The Answer on an 8 date tour, UFO & Taste, also appearing on both BBC Radio & TV. The band additionally wrote the soundtrack for the Irish Film Board film "The Birth Of Rock".

In early 2012 Swanee River signed to Rocksector Records with the labels Mark Appleton saying, "We're very happy indeed to be working with Swanee River. They've done some great things by themselves, self-releasing their music & playing some excellent supports, plus the amazing trip to India. However, it's an ambitious band & I'm delighted the guys approached us to help them develop further & if you listen to the debut album it wets the appetite incredibly for the fantastic prospects of the forthcoming follow-up. The timing of this couldn't be better both in terms of the band's current standing & the general resurgence of interest in the blues rock genre"


Musically the band provide the perfect blend of Hard Classic Rock and Blues, and delivery it in such away that they sound as vibrant and relavent to todays music scene as the Free and Bad Company did in their day. I have totally enjoyed listening to the album over and over again since I first pressed that play button, the songs are so addictive it unbelievable. Any fan of classic or hard rock with a bluesy edge will love these guys!

I cant really pick out any stand out tracks, as all ten are killers (definetly no fillers on this album!), but at the moment my personal favorites are Young Blood, Blue Moon rising, Bouncy Castles and Dont Follow Me, although these are changing with each listen!

These guys are really worth checking out, and I cant wait to hear this albums follow up!

"Nightvision are a four piece hard rock band from Lincolnshire, UK. They formed in 2003. Consequence of Sin is the bands follow up album and its solid on all fronts. With this album the band have really raised their game, pushing eveything up a notch from the songs to the performancies, the band has refined their performance and it shows through in their sound as it comes together and meshes a lot better this time around. The songs are also quite a bit heavier than the previous offering, which may delight the metal fans out there! Opening track, So Many Lies is a good example of how their style has changed as it really sets the pace for some of the future songs.
There is some truly blistering guitar work on display here too, just check out the riffs on Sob Story!

Consequence Of Sin is a great album that should appeal to many rock and metal fans, its has the harder edged rhythm's that can hold their own alongside any contemporary band, the hard rock melodies and lyrics should keep the band accessable to fans of rock as opposed to metal.

I dont think that there is a bad track on this cd, and once again Nightvision along with countless other Uk bands prove that there is plenty of life in the Uk rock and metal music scene!!

Hasta La Victoria Siempre is a new four track Ep for British Superstars in the making Falling Red.
Falling Red put the world to rights with the release of the phenomenal debut album last year, Shake The Faith, really putting British Glam and Sleaze rock back on the map with the album being credited as the most relevant album since Guns N Roses released Appetite For Destruction.
This Ep is a follow up release, to plus their new UK tour with label mates Velvet Star, and the European Tour with Hardcore Superstar.
The EP opens with a rabble rousing anthem in Come On Down, quickly followed by the sleazy little number, My Little Vice.
They follow these up with the power ballad, The Last Kiss Goodbye, a song Bon Jovi / Poison or Guns N Roses would kill for. It’s a great commercial song, with real heart, love it!
Rounding up this little Ep is Aint Down With The Rock, a song that has become a kind of anthem among Falling Red fans, a great calling card.
These guys obviously love what they do, and they do it very well!

A great little Ep very, very highly recommended!

British rockers Velvet Star unleash their debut on us in the form of In The Face Of Vanity, and what a strong album it is. Here is yet more proof that the UK has a vibrant and relevant music scene, with the likes of Velvet Star, Falling Red, Fury On, Voodoo Johnson, Eureka Machines, Jackdaw4, The Treatment, Fury UK, Super-Charger etc, things are really looking good for British music.
As I said this is a really strong debut album, filled with solid songs, and just the right mix of punk into the classic rock to give the band a contemporary sound. Stand out tracks include Revolver, Rockstar / Superstar, One Of Us, It Aint Over and 15 Minutes, but to be honest they’re all great.

Fantasists hailing from Manchester (UK) were born from the ashes of prog rock band Idiom and Post Modern Geisha. They are a power trio, with a talent for mixing heavy riffs with almost Jazz like sections and great melodies and hooks. The band have already begun to build quite a reputation for themselves on the live circuit, and judging by the material on offer here, their debut album, Giggle Juice, I can see why.
The riffs come thick and fast, but always tempered with great tempo changes, and brilliant melodies. Opening with X's & O's the band set out their stall for all to see.
Songs like See-Thru, Darkness, Time To Leave, Mistakes, and The Void are exquisitely catchy songs. Ego has a kind of ska / reggae thing going on, this album is brilliant.
The band manage to mix so many different influences, which be down to their time spent in the Prog rock field with Idiom, but the songs are always solid and remarkably catchy.
These guys offer up something different, like the bastard son of Black Sabbath and The Cult!
Congratulations and thank you to Rocksector Records for snapping these guys up and putting this album out.

Moth Circus - Sideshow Sweetheart

Norwegian rockers Moth Circus unleash their debut album, Sideshow Sweetheart, upon the world on June 28th via Rocksector Records. Moth Circus bring us 14 tracks of Groove laden heavy rock, with hooks Ginger (Wildhearts) would be proud of. Crushingly heavy in places, harmonically melodic in others, and for some strange reason vocalist Johnny Olsen's voice and vocal style bring one Rob Zombie to mind at times.

The band describe themselves and their music as " "Pamela Anderson masturbating at a freak show..." and who am I to argue?
What I can say is that Sideshow Sweetheart is one hell of an album!
Tracks like opener 'Dreamland', 'MIA', 'A Dog and His Junkie', and 'Death Living' are all awesome, and destined to be classics.
Moth Circus are here to stay, and Sideshow Sweetheart is destined to be a classic album.
Catch these guys live on their short uk tour in July if you can, You WONT be disappointed!
